Both playful and poignant, the prints, paintings and mixed-media work of Kanchan Chander draw on her past and present roles and challenges as daughter, sister, wife, mother, student, teacher and professional artist. Her recurrent focus on the female torso, inspired by traditional Indian sculpture and often sumptuously embellished, is an iconic and potent symbol through which she celebrates the perseverance of women in changing times, her own resilience, and her evolving feminist consciousness. Kanchan Chander lives and works in New Delhi.
