Ravi Agarwal

Ravi Agarwal is a photographer and environmental activist living in New Delhi. Trained as an engineer, his work integrates aspects of science, ecology, urban space, the environment, and explorations of the documented self, described as personal ecologies. His early documentary photographs of migrant labor in Gujarat with Dutch anthropologist Jan Bremen, was published by Oxford University press in 2000.

His inclusion in Documenta XI in Kassel Germany in 2002 brought his work into international prominence, and he has since been included in many significant national and international exhibitions of contemporary Indian art including: Indian Highway a traveling exhibition originating at the Serpentine Gallery, London, Horn Please, The Narrative in Contemporary Indian Art, Kunstmusuem, Bern, Switzerland, Public Spaces, Private Places, Newark Museum, New Jersey, and Critical Mass, Tel Aviv Museum of Contemporary Art. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at The Guild Gallery in Mumbai and Gallery Espace in New Delhi.

In 2011 he organized a curatorial project and seminar Yamuna-Elbe, The River and the City, between New Delhi and Hamburg Germany. Information about his photographic and environmental work can be found at raviagarwal.com and toxicslink.org.
